Climate Studies (BA)
Vanderbilt University
Description
The program in climate and environmental studies offers a highly unique major in climate studies and a minor in environmental and sustainability studies. The program provides a timely opportunity for students to engage in interdisciplinary study of the relationship between societies, their environment, and climate change. The climate studies major provides an innovative approach to the integration of the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities. The major gives students a comprehensive perspective on climate change, its challenges, and its possible solutions. Almost every other program in the country focuses exclusively on climate science; our program also incorporates the arts, culture, human behavior, sociology, economics, engineering, and many other areas to provide an interdisciplinary understanding of climate studies. Students will learn across four key areas: knowledge, skills, attitudes, and ethics and values. The curriculum prepares students for the important work of socio-ecological problem solving and includes participation from faculty across Vanderbilt. The major prepares students for a wide range of careers across law, business, medicine, urban planning, green finance, consulting, and more.
