Description

The Hawaiian Studies program is inherently sustainability focused due to the Hawaiian culture's inherent focus on Mālama 'Āina (to care for the land), which is engrained or underlying in most everything in Hawaiian culture. Students in this program are educated in Native Hawaiian Land Management systems, the value of water, the devastating ecological effects of the continued foreign occupation, the ties between language to the land, the ties between religion to the land, and the overall understanding that Hawaiian Culture is heavily influenced by being good stewards of their home. The Hawaiian Studies Associate in Arts Degree (AA) is a two-year Baccalaureate direct transfer Associate in Arts degree consisting of a minimum of 60 semester credits at the 100 and 200 levels. The Associate in Arts in Hawaiian Studies is designed for students who are preparing to transfer to a four year college or university and who have an interest in achieving a qualification that would be beneficial in the workforce or other areas of study where a foundational knowledge of the Native Hawaiian host culture can complement their worldview.
