Description

The Aboriginal Studies Program is a unique, comprehensive, and integrated university-transferable program that addresses historic and contemporary Aboriginal issues in Canada. The faculty come from a wide variety of backgrounds including traditional knowledge, education, business, human relations, psychology, history, law and culture. Each faculty member is committed to encouraging students in exploring skills development, Aboriginal life, history, community relations, challenges and planning for the future. The Department focuses on studies of colonization, culture and identity, law, women, global Indigenous issues, community development, traditional knowledge government policy and self determination. Students are fully supported and mentored.

Learning Outcomes

To expose the students to and stimulate discussion on different topics that may or may not be covered in the classroom. To promote and foster a sense of community amongst the Aboriginal Studies Program students and faculty. To provide for open discussion and feedback from the students to assist in program evaluation and to facilitate change. To establish a supportive atmosphere between students and the program faculty to enhance completion/retention rates. Elders often participate in the seminars.
