Description

Environmental science seeks to better understand and manage the natural environment within a human context. It involves learning about plants, animals, watersheds, and ecosystems - all within the context of human society and our use of the landscape.

Students in the ESTP program at CSUMB develop skill sets in field work, laboratory analysis, geospatial technology, quantitative data analysis, oral and written communication, and environmental law, regulation, and policy.

The program encompasses disciplines such as hydrology, plant ecology, aquatic ecology, watershed science, mammalogy, botany, conservation, geomorphology, soil science, as well as technical areas including geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing, and statistics.

Successful graduates typically attain careers in consulting, government, non-profits, education, or private business. The program also prepares students for entry into masters of science (M.S.) programs, and some continue on to the PhD level.
