Description
This program is designed to empower students to solve sustainability challenges. It provides a broad understanding of the operative and management interactions between the biological, physical, social, economic and political spheres impacting on current environmental issues.
Students in this program have the opportunity to specialise in one or two of five majors:
- Biodiversity Assessment and Management
- Corporate Environmental Management
- Urban Environments and Landscape Design
- Coastal and Marine Management
- Land and Water Management
Learning Outcomes
- Critically appraise the role and relevance of environmental practices and tropical sustainable futures in local, regional and global society
- Demonstrate broad understanding of problem-oriented sustainability approaches, including stakeholder analysis, values clarification, community engagement and partnerships, interdisciplinary collaboration, and systems and futures thinking
- Retrieve, analyse, synthesise and evaluate information from a range of sources
- Plan and conduct reliable, evidence-based laboratory and/or field experiments and/or field work and/or a sustainability investigation, by selecting and applying methods, techniques and tools as appropriate to one or more disciplines
- Organise, analyse and interpret Environmental Management data using mathematical, statistical and/or technological skills
- Convey ideas, arguments and conclusions clearly and coherently through well-developed written and oral communication skills and a variety of media
- Identify, analyse and generate solutions to unpredictable or complex problems relating to the environmental practice of tropical communities and regions by applying knowledge and skills with initiative and well-developed judgement
- Critically review regulatory requirements, ethical principles and cultural frameworks, to work effectively, responsibly and safely in diverse contexts and interdisciplinary teams
- Reflect on current skills, knowledge and attitudes to manage their professional learning needs and performance, autonomously and in collaboration with others.
