Description

Green Mountain College's Sustainable MBA program, the first of its kind in the nation and regionally accredited by the New England Association of Schools & Colleges (NEASC), is designed to teach students how to achieve their economic objectives while addressing the needs of the environment, employees, community, and other stakeholders. The program reflects the growing trend among successful companies to focus on the triple bottom line, seeking competitive advantages through practices that are succeed economically, are socially responsible, and environmentally sound. The Sustainable MBA provides a solid foundation in the core areas of business administration, including finance, accounting, marketing, organizational leadership, business law, operations, quantitative analysis, and ethics. Further building on these concepts, the program is designed to ground this knowledge in the connections between an organization's financial, social and environmental performance and encouraging students to apply their learning in their current career. What makes the program truly unique is that the principles of sustainable business are woven through every course and taught by committed faculty who possess real-world sustainable business experience. As one of the nation's pioneer environmental liberal arts colleges, Green Mountain College is uniquely positioned to produce business leaders who are able to focus on success - without losing sight of the bigger picture. The Sustainable MBA program consists of 37 credits and the normal time expected to complete the degree is two years. Courses are typically taken sequentially, in year-round study, with a one week break between each course. Students complete projects by applying the skills and knowledge acquired in the program and engaging with classmates and instructors in asynchronous discussions. Because of the program's sequential course progression, students will normally enter each course with the same students who started in their cohort. This enables the development a sense of classroom community and establishes a level of collaboration that is often difficult to achieve in an online setting. The college fosters the communal identity of the program further by offering students the opportunity to attend an annual on-site residency here at the Green Mountain College campus in scenic Poultney, Vermont. Green Mountain College's commitment to environmental causes and organizational focus on sustainability serves as the backdrop which enables our students to graduate with a depth of knowledge, practical skills, and professional preparedness not replicated in any other Sustainable MBA program.
