Population-based Urban and Rural Community Health (PURCH)(Concentration)
UMass Chan Medical School
Description
In collaboration with Baystate Health located in Springfield, Massachusetts, the Population-based Urban and Rural Community Health (PURCH) track is integrated within the core curriculum of the T.H. Chan School of Medicine, offering an enhanced focus on population health, healthcare disparities, and health challenges specific to urban and rural settings. A distinctive feature of the PURCH program is the incorporation of local residents' perspectives into all facets of education. This is facilitated through our unique nonclinical Baystate Community Faculty, who are actively engaged members of the communities we serve. Through immersive experiences both inside and outside the classroom, students gain insights into the daily realities of community members, ranging from visits to local food pantries to understanding transportation options and the availability of essential services. Regardless of your desired medical specialization, PURCH provides an innovative approach to clinical practice, community involvement, and policy advocacy, laying a robust groundwork for your future career endeavors.
