Description

The Bachelor of Science in Urban Design at Parsons is the country's first undergraduate urban design degree program housed in an art and design school. Combining fieldwork, design studio and liberal arts instruction, and applied project-based research, the program embodies the mission of civic engagement at the New School. Students in the program creatively reimagine the many roles of the urban designer, often inspired by their experience of living and studying in New York City. Students in the BS in Urban Design program examine the greatest challenges of the 21st century: social sustainability and ecological resilience in a rapidly urbanizing world. Based in the School of Design Strategies at Parsons, students and faculty explore design as a core capability and strategic asset in the sustainable practices of individuals, groups, communities, and organizations. Student projects are connected to cities through coursework, international research collaborations, and study abroad opportunities.
