Description
The Applied Associate of Science Degree in Energy Management is a two-year technical training program that prepares students for a career in commercial building energy analysis and energy management.
Students evaluate energy use patterns; develop, implement, market and maintain conservation programs; perform public outreach; recommend energy efficiency techniques; integrate alternative energy sources; and perform systems analysis to solve problems.
Lab courses use the Tunxis campus as a living laboratory. Students perform energy auditing and analysis on actual campus building systems using energy billing data, data loggers, Department of Energy software, “ballast discriminators,” combustion analyzers, gas leak detectors, and energy management system reports.
Learning Outcomes
- Evaluate energy use patterns of residential and commercial buildings.
- Recommend energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions for high energy consuming buildings.
- Understand the interaction between energy consuming building systems and based on that understanding make energy consumption recommendations.
- Produce energy evaluation technical reports and make presentations leading to project implementation.
- Develop and evaluate inferences and predictions that are based on collected data.
- Read and analyze building blue prints including floor, mechanical, and electrical plans.
- Use problem-solving techniques & mathematics to transform concepts into energy related projects.
