GW’s Sustainability Institute
George Washington University
Description
Founded in 2009, the Institute supports the development of interdisciplinary research teams to address complex and current sustainability problems. From social sciences, to natural sciences, law, and more, students and faculty work together to develop solutions and research all aspects of sustainability. Often, their findings are brought to the GW Office of Sustainability to promote greater research efforts in their classrooms, solving operational problems on campus, and communicating their findings all over the world. The Institute has developed new initiatives such as the Sustainability Scholars Program and continues to welcome new faculty, staff, and students from a broad range of diverse backgrounds and educations. Their current focus is promoting urban sustainability, integrating the Arctic into our understanding of planetary processes, improving the equitable distribution of energy technologies, and advancing the acceptance of evidence-defined policies through digital storytelling and exposure to authentic science practices.
