Sustainability Capstone PISA: An interdisciplinary team of students from USFQ worked at Santa Lucía Passage through a co-creative process with the community to build spaces of permanence by constructing a more enjoyable and safe and activating local commerce. The project proposes a gradual activation process through activities and interventions in the space, as a living lab that evolves, adapts and engages the community with their surroundings.

This silo on UWinnipeg’s main campus stores pellets used in the school’s new biomass heating system. The system runs on locally-sourced wood pellets that are fed into two 100 kW boilers in the basement of Ashdown Hall. Biomass has been on the University’s radar since 2015 and a partnership with Manitoba Hydro has helped make it a reality through funding and developmental support. The new system iwill take UWinnipeg half way to its goal of meeting 5% of energy needs with alternative renewables.
